Getting desperate - need help ASAP!

Hi.

I?m editing some footage, and am having a great load of problems. I need to turn over this film on Monday so I need help ASAP? getting slightly desperate now [img]smile.gif[/img]

First of all I?m editing in Abobe Premiere Pro using the widescreen preset as most of the film is shot in 16x9. There is also 4:3 footage and this is giving me a slight headache.

Questions:

a)When exporting the final product to a DVD how to I handle that some of the footage is 4:3. What settings should I use, and what problems might I get? I really fear that the DVD will stretch the 4:3 footage.

b)The film has two parts which have been edited in each their project. The actually share the same footage, and I hoped I could just copy all the clips and paste it into the other project. It appears I was wrong ? am I? The solution I have made is to export the second half and then import it into the first project. That works except for the 4:3 footage of the imported clip is stretched.

So how to I join these to halves while still keeping the aspect ratios?

c)The sound of the exported footage distorts with crackles and pops which arent?t present when just viewing the footage within premiere (before its exported). Ideas?

I dont know if this will help, but I find that when things get messy, sometimes its a good idea
to export your finished project as a quicktime (or avi , or whatever your settings are) clip.
Maybe this will help with your 'putting two projects together' problem?

the 4:3 problem : I dont know, I think using different format media in the same project is likely to cause problems.
Is there any way you can import the whole 4:3 stuff into another project, clip or crop it, or resize it (or all) and get it into the format that matches the other stuff you have - export this as quicktime, (whatever) with the same settings as your widescreen stuff, and effectively generate a new clip which you can bring into your widescreen edits?

Found out that I can import the other project, and it does this while still keeping the 4:3 aspect ratio. Good stuff...

Now im still a llittle worried about audio and streching when exporting.

I have a DVD rw- do any of you know if I can keep exporting to that, or does premiere finalize the dvd so it cant be overwritten? I see no such option

Hi Christian,

Sorry to hear your having some difficulties.

Firstly regarding the 4:3 image being resized. 1) Make sure that all of your projects (i believe in the first instance you have 2 projects) have the same settings. I'm not sure which side of the pond you are on, but either NTSC or PAL, and widescreen. When you import your 4:3 footage into this project is it sretched? As far as i remember, it shouldn't be. If it is, then resize it now. Select the clip, goto the 'effects controls' window, select motion, and then uncheck the box which says 'uniform scale' and adjust the height and width as appropriate. When this project is finished, export theis widescreen project as an uncompressed avi. Watch back that avi, are the aspect ratios you intended preserved? What are you watching it back with? Use premieres monitor, as earlier versions or windows media player can distort aspect ratios on occassion. If it looks right in the monitor then mport that avi into the second project, and stick it on the end (or begining). This should work, but it sounds like you may have tried this, in which case, I'm not sure why it doesn't.

What are you going to use to make the DVD? Encore works well with premiere, and other adobe programmes, such as photoshop. Just make sure when you create your disc in Encore (or whatever) you ask for a widescreen disc.

For the sound problem,

are you exporting the video without any compression? It could just be your computer dealing with the high amount of data.

You might just need to mess around with the audio export settings in premiere until the problem goes away.

What sort of file are you exporting it as? It would be easier to help the more details you provide.

Ok... the DVD burner within Premiere is screwing me. So I need another way to burn the film onto DVD... and free programs which will do this?

If you search the forum, you will discover virtually every question you could ask has been asked a hundred times before, and has had quick, helpful answers posted too. If your problemis genuinely unique, if you ask your question in the right forum, you will undoubtly get a very quick response. I've never waited more than 10 minutes for the solution to my problem.

Question...Lets say I want to add black bares on the side of the 4x3 footage so it gets 16x9 ratio. How would I do this in premiere? One way of doing it is taking a dark matte and then making the clip slightly opaque. This also makes it darker though -other ways?
